It's A Dog's Life

Monday, March 02, 2009

I spent quite a of of time this morning chewing on this big stick. It tastes like the beach!

My guardian wasted a lot of time balancing it on her index finger and being all self-congratulatory over it. I didn't understand that part. But, when she got bored with it, she gave it to me. All's well then.

As usual I had hoped that I might get to go to the beach today but my driver and guardian spent the whole morning typing on the rectangular thing, and then she went away for awhile. I asked her about it and she said I might have to go for the whole week without going to the beach. A'course that would be real unfortunate. But, for me, the main thing is to have my guardian near. Even if she isn't playing with me, I like being able to look at her. Sometimes I send her dog blessings with my eyes. I know they are getting through because she looks up and smiles at me.

Sometimes, when I am thinking about my guardian, I also think about THE Guardian. I wonder if THE Guardian can tell it when the humans are looking at Her? I wonder if that makes Her feel all happy? Lindy says that you can't tell about stuff like that because you can't understand THE Guardian in human terms. But, to be totally honest, I don't understand anything in human terms. It's because I'm a dog. In strictly canine terms, I think THE Guardian likes the feel of our eyes on Her. I bet she likes it a lot. It might even be as good as liver.

Love,

Rowan

  • Oh Rowan, I love you. We are so glad to see you on the blog today. Sorry about the beach, but all will be well.

Your Guardian is awesome. We love her too.

  • Rowan.
Your guardian is talking pie in the sky nonsense as usual.
Of course, humans can understand THE GUARDIAN in human times. We were made in THE GUARDIAN'S image.
And you, my firend, were made in the image of THE GUARDIAN'S best friend who sits at her left hand - probably chewing a stick.

  • Well, thanks to everybody for stopping by my blog.

Catherine, you are THE bishop too. We all have a little bishop in us, loving us, and helping us to see how much love Jesus and everybody has for us. Their eyes are on us.

We love you too Fran. My guardian always tells me what you are up to and what you are blogging on. I wish I could get petted by you and Esdy.

MasPriest, I gave that advice to my guardian and she reminded me that God is more than just a really big dog. She said image was one thing, likeness more mysterious. Or something like that.

Does anyone think I can get a treat now?

Thanks for stopping by Suzuki. I'll click right over to your blog to say WOOF!

    Love and wags to all,

    Rowan

  • Oh Rowan...look at how brilliant and beautiful and shiny your coat looks in the sunshine! I am struck by how handsome you are.

    :hugs for you:

I'd give you a treat right now but I can't pass it through the electronic box. Sorry!

  • She said image was one thing, likeness more mysterious.

That's the sort of fancy sounding twaddle that women come out with all the while, Rowan. It's like saying "snacks are one thing, treats are another." The male of the species would look at that statement and think "what a waste of breath, it's all food to me."

Keep your eye on the ball, little man, and don't let your guardian convince you that your ball is square.

By Blogger MadPriest, at 2:01 AM

  • Well, my balls are cut off MP so I am practically a woman myself. Still, I'll be on guard against that woman twaddle.

  • interesting theological debate between Rowan and Madpriest....

    1. Yes we are made in God's image (all of us, male and female).
    2. No, God is not a guy.
    3. However, Jesus is. (however, the more important point is that Jesus is a human.)
    4. according to St. John, God is spirit.
    5. I think it's important theologically to say that God is both one of us and OTHER, HOLY and OTH

By Blogger Diane M. Roth, at 7:22 AM

  • So, Diane, before the Word became flesh, was it male or female. And is the divine Christ (post-resurrection) male or female.

    What is spirit made of?

By Blogger MadPriest, at 7:28 AM

  • Well, MP, Jesus was a human male only because we assume that. There are no historical descriptions of what was actually between his legs nor are we aware of any genetic data on the subject. I would be willing to entertain the notion that Jesus was a woman, a man, or some other combination. The first person, you know, Adam, was originally both male and female. So, Jesus, being the second Adam and all... Well, maybe he was both too. What I won't budge on is that Jesus was a sexual being. That is part of being human and I affirm Jesus' full humanity.

I also affirm the full otherness of God and accept the fact that I am not able to understand such a being. All I know is that God is love, and I am woefully inept at that.

So, I really do insist on having it both ways. Jesus as a real great human and God as utterly incomprehensible. Treats AND snacks.

Diane is so lucky to have a real smart dog like Scout to tell her all the smart things she says. My guardian says that Diane is one of the best thinker humans around which, a'course, speaks real highly of Scouts abilities.

MP, maybe you should talk to Callum next time you need theological advice. Just woofin!

    Love,

    Rowan
