It's A Dog's Life

Well, I finally got a photo of my great and very shiny star! You can see it here, shining like the nativity star that Lindy puts up at Christmas.

Honestly, I do sleep better knowing that my very great star is shining just outside my kennel.

In this picture you can see me, and I think I look very good in this shot. And the shiny star just behind me.

My pal, and neighborhood ruffian, Romeo is the one that made it so shiny. Romeo is amazing. But, I think his guardian helped some.

I wish that everyone could have a shiny star on their kennel. It does make me feel even more special than usual.

These are a couple of great shots of me on the porch.

Now that Lindy has a tomato garden we have to spend quite a lot of time out there watching them grow. They grow slow, I'll tell you what.

On the plus side, I have my very own chair. Lindy said that if she ever gets a friend I will have to let the friend sit in my chair. I feel that I am pretty safe.

One of the tomatoes has started to turn red. Lindy was plenty excited about that, I'll tell you what. Tomatoes DO turn red. Even dogs know that. I'll tell you something else, the blue jay sitting in the big oak tree knows it too.

I feel that I look especially good in this shot. My harness makes me look like a tough guy. I really think I could be on TV if they would just let me wear the harness. I wish Lindy would get me a little badge for it, like a sheriff. I'm going to talk to her about that first thing in the morning.

Well, I just wanted to show you all these great photos of myself. I hope you enjoy looking at me as much as I do.

Dear Buddy, Samantha, Scout, Romeo, Diego, Bear, Mini, Biggles, and other dog friends,

Most of my many very interesting posts are directed at the human world. But, I need to ask my dog friends something.

The other day my guardian asked me a question, and I need to know what the correct answer is. She said, “Rowan, how many times do I have to give you a command before you obey?”

I was thinking four?

How do you all handle this situation with your guardians?

Just wondering,

Lindy and I cleaned out our closets yesterday. Lindy said we had too many clothes.

At first I didn't want to give away any of my clothes, especially the pretty ones. But, Lindy explained to me that some dogs don't have any nice clothes at all. I thought that was pretty sad. So, I am going to give away this jacket that is too small anyway. Lindy said that wasn't exactly sacrificial giving but I was not aware of the sacrificial thing. She just sprung that one on me.

Sometimes things don't turn out exactly like you think they will. Something like "sacrificial" can pop up at any time. I don't even know what that is!

I talked to Lindy about that and she said that it is exactly the same way for her. She said that when she got promised a "new life," that she thought it would just be great and everything all the time. Turns out that there's some other things involved too. Sacrifice, I think, might be one of them. I think sacrifice is hard for humans. It would appear to be even harder than parting with a nice jacket like the one I am wearing in the photo above. -- That's Lindy's bare naked leg I'm propped up on, by the way.

Lindy says that being sacrificial has it's own rewards. So far, I am still waiting for mine.

Well, I sure hope that everything is turning out like you planned.

I am a real lucky dog, I’ll tell you what.

Remember when I went to the LCRA and I saw those big gold stars? Well, you may remember that I wanted one for my very own. I was kind of beginning to give up hope of ever getting one because Lindy, that’s my guardian, she really wasn’t too enthusiastic about it.

But, just a couple days ago Romeo and his guardian came over to my house and brought me a gold star and it is my very own too.

I am hoping that Romeo and his guardian will come over again so I can get my picture taken with them and me and the star. I haven’t seen them around the neighborhood since getting my great gold star but I know I’ll see them soon.

The gold star is shiny too. I like that quite a lot.

Yea... I got a star!

I am really lucky, I'll tell you what, because I get to go to work with my guardian. I heard from some of the other dogs that they have to stay home all day.

If course, I have a quite a lot of very important responsibilities when I go to work. Mainly, though, I just try to keep my eyes on my guardian. My real delight is not in any of the many jobs I do but just being with her.

In this shot I am sitting nicely beside the tree. Lindy will be back for me soon!

You can see in my eyes that I am on high alert. I am on constant look out for my guardian. I never know when she might show up. I just long for the quickening in my heart, that one moment of pure joy, when my guardian appears.

Well, as usual, I had a very good and fun day with my guardian. It was a nice summer day so I had Linda put the top down for me. She's so accommodating.

In this shot you can see that I am ready to go. Just waiting for Lindy.

Me and Lindy went right over to the Greek Cafe to have lunch with Ms. Elizabeth. Ms. Elizabeth really does love me, I'll tell you what. She's really a swell human too.

The very first thing I did at the Greek Cafe was give Ms. Elizabeth a nice hug. Ms. Elizabeth petted me and said all kinds of real sweet things to me about my good looks and stuff. It's a little embarrassing to be so great but I really can't help it.

These photos are a little out of focus because Lindy forgot her glasses. What glasses are is they are artificial lenses used by species which have not properly evolved. Lindy uses them.

Lindy and Ms. Elizabeth were in charge of all the food. I did manage to have a little piece of chicken and some hummus. I like hummus.

Well, that's about it for my great day. I hope you had some good food with friends today and that THE Guardian is giving you plenty to eat.

Today Lindy took me to the LCRA (Lower Colorado River Authority) which is where all the rain goes before the government decides where to put it. So, thanks be to God for the government, eh?

This particular LCRA is at Mansfield Dam. It wasn't named after the pretty human Jane Mansfield. Somebody else.

In this shot I am posing under one of the big gold stars on the gate going into the LCRA. I asked Lindy to get one of these stars to go above my kennel. She didn't make any promises but she didn't say "NO" either. I remain hopeful.

In this shot I am looking at the water. It sure is gushing out of there.

I feel that I look very good in these shots, Again, you can see the big gold star in the background. If I don't get one real soon, maybe for Christmas. I am really hoping because I feel that I am worthy of having such a big gold star above my kennel, and also it is real shiny. I like that in a star.

You can see how big the water is in these shots that Lindy took. It was loud too. I wasn't scared.

I haven't been doing too much work lately. Lindy says that she doesn't have time for me to help her. She has to get out there and "take care of business," as she says.

I've been taking a lot of naps. Back when I was a pup, I used to just go to sleep wherever my body fell down. But, now that I've had the chance to observe my guardian, I know that to take a proper nap you have to put your head on a pillow and cover up with a nice soft comforter.

This was pretty easy for me to learn because I've seen Lindy do it. I can learn the things I see.

Here is a shot of me making sure that my pillows are fluffed and that I have plenty of cover. Don't want to get caught without enough cover, you know.

Of course, a real good nap is made even better if it is preceded by a long yawn. I like to make a little noise with my yawns. Lindy does this too.

And, finally, I put my little head down. That's what Lindy always says to me. "Put your little head down,"she says.

Now I am ready for my good nap.

I hope you are getting some good summer time naps too.

Today I got to go to Starbucks. What that is, it's a place where you can get your guardian to take you in the car and the guardian has to get out of the car and go somewhere else while us dogs can just enjoy our car time. Lindy doesn't mind taking me there at all. She is such a sweetheart.

I used my car time to feel of the sunshine on my fur and to take a nap. Also, I watched some of the humans. I kept my big ears open for anything that needed listening to. And, I practiced looking handsome. Tried out a couple new poses.

Ms. Marianne and Ms. Mollie were at the Starbucks too and they came over to my car and gave me some pets. I like getting petted. It feels good. I would say it's a priority.

Then Lindy brought me home where I got a drink of water, looked for birds on the porch, and took another nap.

I hope your Sunday afternoon is going as well as mine!

Thursday, July 05, 2007

Well, here's that great photo of myself I promised you. And, please notice how I really do look quite handsome in this one.

Lindy was in a good mood when she got home with her SanDisk reader de do-hickey. She said that she got it at the office supply store without even having to go to the camera store at all!

So, I guess we could have had the photos a lot earlier if Ms. Technology Queer... I mean Technology Queen... had known what she was doing. I don't really mind her occasional goof-ups. She's amusing though.

If you look there in the background you can see Lindy's amazing tomato plants. We had to take photos of them too. Even the tomatoes have a blog of their own!

I smelled a cat while Lindy and I were out taking our photos. I didn't run after it though. It's not allowed.

I am a wild man at heart but I do try to please my guardian as much as I can. It's hard sometimes when she asks me to do things that seem counterintuitive to me. It's just in my nature, my very DNA to chase those dang cats. But, as an obedient servant, I love to please my guardian more than my very life. So, I obey. I try real hard anyway.

Lindy says that she has the same issues with her guardian. That's THE Guardian. I think that Lindy sometimes is not very obedient. Don't know for sure. But, like me, she tries hard. As a fellow traveler, and struggler, I can respect that.

Hope you are doing good with your guardian.

I just want to show you all some of the deer that I chase when I am at my Aunt Jeanne and Uncle Ted's house. These fellers, they come around every evening trying to make some trouble, I'll tell you what.

No worries with me around, though. I chase them right off.

Lindy has mentioned to me that they seem like gentle deer and that they wouldn't really do any harm. This is all just her opinion, of course. It's pure conjecture. I have a feeling it's more of that "Peaceable Kingdom" philosophy she is always trying to pawn off on Buddy the Cat and me.

Hey, "conjecture..." pretty big word for such a little dog. My English really is pretty good, don't you think?

I will try to get Lindy to take some more shots of me. I know that's what you really want to see, after all. And, I'll tell you what, I'll try to look extra handsome for you.

Well, I hope that you're having a good day and that no deer are trying to stink up your place.

Wednesday, July 04, 2007

I’ll tell you what my problem is, for those who want to know. It’s Lindy. She is not being very cooperative about helping me with my blog.

Here’s what I mean. I know that there are lots of really swell photos of me in the camera but Lindy says she can’t get them out of there without a new cord. (A cord is a special thing that makes things work. I think.) Anyway. They have cords at a store in Austin. That‘s the same town I live in. But, Lindy won’t drive “all the way down there” to get me one. She says it’s not a priority.

What a priority is, I think, is something that is really good. Treats, for example, would be a priority for me because they are so good. Working is Lindy’s priority. She loves it. Does it every single day. Sometimes I worry about the addiction of work. I think Lindy would like to quit, but she just can’t. She’s hooked. It’s her priority.

I know Lindy has to feed her work addiction but I wish that she would make my blog a priority too.
